CT: PROTECTED TAG EDITORS. A new generation of editors for HTML, XML or even SGML documents are the tag editors, equipped with translation memory functionality. These tools enable translators to work in the HTML source, with only the relevant markup visible to translators. A translation memory engine keeps track of all translations, while they are being inserted.
Some translation memory tools have integrated tag editors, others distribute them as stand-alone tools. Trados Translator’s Workbench, for example, now contains an add-on called Tag Editor which can be used to translate SGML, XML, Workbench RTF, and HTML documents in a semi-WYSIWYG environment.

N: TagEditor is a translation editor for tagged text, Microsoft Office and DTP (desktop publishing) file formats. TagEditor connects to Trados Workbench and thus utilizes a TM. However, unlike when translating with Microsoft Word and Trados Workbench, TagEditor protects all tags so that you can avoid accidental deletion. TagEditor can also verify tags for correct syntax after they have been transferred from the source document to the translated document.
