CT: One of the main components of the transmission of a wind turbine is the speed multiplier. Its role is to increase the relative small rotational speed of the propeller to the nominal relative high rotational speed of the generator. This paper is dealing with optimal gear
design of three different types of double steps speed multiplier with planetary units, usually met in the construction of wind turbine’s transmissions. The first step in optimal gear design of these kinds of transmissions is choosing of gear ratios of the two gear steps.

N: 1. speed (n): Old English sped “success, a successful course; prosperity, riches, wealth; luck; opportunity, advancement,” from Proto-Germanic spodiz.
Meaning “rapidity of movement, quickness, swiftness” emerged in late Old English (at first usually adverbially, in dative plural, as in spedum feran). Meaning “rate of motion or progress” (whether fast or slow) is from c.1200. Meaning “gear of a machine” is attested from 1866. Meaning “methamphetamine, or a related drug,” first attested 1967, from its effect on users.
multiplier (n): late 15c., agent noun from multiply.
2. A mechanical component inside a wind turbine nacelle that consists of numerous geared wheels multiplying the rotations transmitted by the main shaft.
3. Mechanical power transmission multiplying the input angular speed under a constant transmission ratio are called speed multipliers. Most wind turbines drive trains include a speed multiplier to increase the speed of the turbine shaft to the generator. An increase in speed is needed because the turbines rotors turn at a much lower speed than it is required by most electrical generators.
