CT: This research presents useful insights into making decisions regarding the thermosyphon heat transfer system between the nuclear reactor and chemical plant. Developing very high-temperature reactor technologies for producing electricity, hydrogen, and other energy products is a high priority for a successful national energy future.

N: 1. From thermo- (before vowels therm-, word-forming element meaning “hot, heat, temperature,” used in scientific and technical words, from comb. form of Greek thermos “hot, warm,” therme “heat”) and siphon (late 14c., from Latin sipho (genitive siphonis) “a siphon,” from Greek siphon “pipe, tube for drawing wine from a cask,” of unknown origin. Related: Siphonal).
2. A solar heating system that uses natural convection to transport heat from the collector to storage, by appropriately locating the storage in relation to the collector.
3. Passive systems, which rely on gravity rather than electricity, are most efficient in hot climates where night or wintertime freezing is not present. Some passive systems use a thermosiphon configuration that uses gravity and convective heat flows. Cold water from a height flows down by gravity to the solar collector, and, as the water passes through the collector and heats up, it rises through convection to reach the storage tank again. Another type of passive system is the integrated collector storage system, in which the collector forms the top of the water-storage tank and heats the water directly in the tank.
