CT: It’s time to give your old tablet a new life by making into a mega remote that controls all of the smart devices in your home.
Besides using it to control your streaming box or stick (like the Chromecast or Apple TV), your tablet is an ideal option for managing the many smart devices in your home.
With the right setup (more on that later), you can streamline your tablet to easily control your smart bulbs, thermostat, security camera, locks, and other web-connected devices.

N: 1. From Middle English tablett, from Anglo-French tablet, diminutive of table table. Circa 1300, “slab or flat surface for an inscription” (especially the two Mosaic tables of stone), from Old French tablete “small table, merchant’s display counter” (13c., Modern French tablette), diminutive of table “slab,” or from Medieval Latin tabuleta (source also of Spanish tableta, Italian tavoletta), diminutive of Latin tabula). The meaning “lozenge, pill” is first recorded 1580s; that of “pad of writing paper” in 1880. Altough its firt known use dates back to the 14th century, when applied to computer science and telecommunications, it began being used in the 20th century, when the first such device (called Dynabook) was created.
2. According to the Grand Dictionnaire Terminologique, there are two terms associated with this one, which also bear the name of their respective brands (Apple and Google): iPad and Playbook.
3. Main differences between the most popular tablet brands, Apple iPad and the Samsung Galaxy pad:

  • Display: the Apple iPad comes with one display option – a 9.7-inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2048-by-1536 pixels. Samsung makes the Galaxy Tab in a few different display sizes and styles.
  • Connections, Cameras and Sensors: the iPad and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 both have 3.5-mm headphone and microphone jacks and 30-inch dock connectors. Smaller Galaxy Tab tablets have a connection for a removable memory storage card, letting you upgrade their memory. Every tablet has a front-facing camera, but the iPad’s 0.3-megapixel camera lags behind the Galaxy Tab’s 1.3- to 2.0-megapixel cameras.
  • Operating System and Software: Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets run varying versions of Google’s Android operating system and work with the Android Market, also known as Google Play Store. iPads run Apple’s iOS and support the App Store.

4. TERMIUM Plus® recommends differentiating ‘tablet’ with “Tablet PC”, which refers to the Microsoft Windows operating system designed for tablet PC (personal computer) technology.
