CT: If users reach a deep page after traveling from the homepage through all the ancestor pages of that page, they will have a fairly clear understanding of where they are in the site’s information hierarchy. But when they skip some of these levels (for example, because they arrived to the site by clicking on an external link such as a search-engine result), breadcrumbs orient them and help them find their way to other, possibly more relevant, pages.

N: 1. 1. – breadcrumbs (pln): Ca 1529. From the word-forming element “bread-“ (Middle English breed, from Old English brēad; akin to Old High German brōt, bread, Old English brēowan, to brew) and “-crumb” (Middle English crumme, from Old English cruma; akin to Middle High German krume, crumb)
The term comes from the classic Brothers Grimm tale where children scattered breadcrumbs in the woods to find their way back home. On a website, a breadcrumb trail is a navigation tool that allows a user to see where the current page is in relation to the website’s hierarchy
2. User interface element designed to make navigation easy and intuitive. They are used by operating systems, software programs, and websites. Breadcrumbs display the directory path of the current folder or webpage and provide one-click access to each of the parent directories.
3. Breadcrumb navigation is a form of a path-style navigation. There are free types of breadcrumbs:
- Path Breadcrumbs: Dynamic breadcrumbs that show the path the user took to arrive at a certain page.
- Location Breadcrumbs: static breadcrumbs that show a given website’s hierarchy relative to where that website page is positioned.
- Attribute Breadcrumbs: Breadcrumbs that provide information that classifies the ongoing website page.
The parent page of the Web page a user is visiting is displayed during breadcrumb navigation. The “>” symbol separates out the hierarchical search order from beginning to end. Designers may opt to use other symbols (also known as glyphs), or even graphics.
4. Cultural Interrelation: We can mention the book SEO Warrior (2009) by John I Jerkovic.
